Beach Box
residential
This experiment with shipping containers resulted in an attractive single-family house that fits into the midcentury neighborhood. High-Cube containers are welded together to form two wings which are splayed on the site to create an open living/kitchen area between the containers. The open ends are glazed, and the low-slope roof that envelops the containers extends to create a carport.
The four shipping containers are insulated on the inside to make them energy-efficient in this hot, humid climate. They were painted the characteristic “Tiffany Blue” to fulfill the owners’ dream of a jewel-like Beach Box that adds up to more than the sum of its parts.
