Post and beam house
Inspired by mid-century case study houses, this is a distinctly Southern version of modernism. The house has deep overhangs characterized by the post and beam construction and high transoms that follow the roof pitch. The design maintains transparency from the front to the back through the living area with large windows, while wood screens create privacy for activities within. Construction materials are low-carbon CLT and SIP panels, which provide high-performance insulation and air barriers.
The house is elevated for flood protection but this also enhances views of the beach and natural ventilation from coastal breezes. Large porches are cantilevered above grade, creating zones for outdoor living on each side of the house.
