Hurricane zones often call for a bolthole, a place to retreat when severe weather threatens. This small house uses the high-performance technology of an impact-resistant aircraft hangar door to be able to shutter the house from windborne debris and high winds. When the weather is fine, it raises up out of the way, revealing a wall of doors and windows that connect the inhabitants to the farm landscape beyond.
This site is well outside of the floodplain and protected from wind exposure by native forest areas. In addition to living areas it includes a truck bay for heirlooms and artworks.
