USM Executive Education Center
Civic
This university structure supports the growing need for executive education, including certificate programs and professional development courses. Multi-purpose spaces will be used for banqueting, conventions, screenings, science cafes, and other events. The building will host events from 40-400 people with formal and informal space for networking and collaboration. Lounge areas, pre-function space, and porches are designed to accommodate large groups, quiet areas, touchdown space, and receptions.
The building is intimately engaged with the landscape preserving the grove of live oak trees and creating a water-activated landscape. The low form of the building presents dramatic views beneath the trees and floats above the landscape where the topography slopes down to the water. The building uses low-embodied carbon materials in the structure and envelope, including laminated wood and low-carbon concrete.
