Emerging markets are driving innovation in industrial zone management. Customers are demanding more sustainably sourced and produced products and industries are taking voluntary action to focus on practical corporate social responsibility efforts. Therefore, operators of industrial parks are differentiating their sites from other industrial lands by providing additional services to meet the growing regulatory demands, as well as requests for environmentally-responsible operations. Our team did a thorough analysis of the site constraints – flood zones, wetland hydrology, topography, infrastructure, land cover, sea level rise projections, geotechnical soils, habitat, among other characteristics – and weighted these factors to determine the most appropriate locations for new industry. The resulting maps defined areas for an intensified industrial park, with master planned areas for additional plants, offices, transload facilities, and infrastructure. It also identified areas to be conserved and restored to offset future development.
