Mixed Use + Housing

Adaptive reuse is important to preserve the embodied carbon in construction materials, leading to the adage “the greenest building is an existing building.” In this project, supportive housing for patients living with AIDS needed to be updated to provide private units instead of shared living areas and dormitory-style bedrooms. The program demanded a fresh look at the entry sequence, common areas, and individual apartments. Color enlivens the hallway with individual entrances in a rainbow of colors for identity and wayfinding.
