marine education center
experience
Building on a site along the coastal edge places a strong emphasis on stewardship of marine resources. A redlist of materials known to cause harm to the marine environment was developed by the architects, and are prohibited on site. This facility is a model of sustainable and durable coastal construction: floor levels are raised above the required floor elevations to provide additional security against future storms, and helical pier foundations form a staunch foundation against hydrodynamic forces while not interrupting tree roots. The project was designed to meet U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver level certification.
