DOWNTOWN CIVIC CENTER

CIVIC

Parking creates unsightly gaps in the urban fabric, reducing vibrancy in downtown areas. This two-level parking deck is set back from a secondary street, and incorporates a civic center to increase density in this small town. The wrap-around porch has views to historic downtown Bay St. Louis and the waterfront, creating a vernacular element in a modern language. Materials include board-formed concrete, white-painted steel, and impact-resistant glazing. The parking garage is wrapped with green screens to form a living wall of climbing vines and convert vehicle emissions to oxygen. Rainwater harvesting and a 12kW solar array offset water and energy use.
